Economie et Emploi

The competence and organisation of the Ministry of the Brussels-Capital Region’s economy and employment administration
The Administration de l’Economie et de l’Emploi (AEE, economy and employment administration) promotes sustainable economic development and job creation in the Brussels-Capital Region.

Economy

The AEE provides financial support to businesses and NPOs:

  • Grants for investments, consulting, training as well as monitoring compliance with the grant conditions
  • Optional subsidies to businesses and NPOs that support the Region’s economy

The AEE officially represents the Brussels-Capital Region in economic domains and manages the competence in agriculture. It also works to promote the Region and attract foreign investors, while also encouraging foreign trade by providing assistance and financial support to exporters.

The AEE also provides special support to agri-food businesses, with microbiological and chemical analyses of foodstuffs and technical advice for the manufacture of products in compliance with the legal prescriptions.

Employment

The AEE contributes to developing employment and supporting the social economy. To do so, it takes on a wide range of different roles:

  • Accrediting private employment agencies (temporary work, recruitment and selection, outplacement) and monitoring compliance with the legal obligations
  • Accrediting and funding for-profit and not-for-profit job-market integration service providers
  • Subsidising projects aimed at supporting employment
  • Handling work permit applications
  • Monitoring compliance with regulations concerning the employment of foreign nationals

The AEE’s activities are spread over various directorates:
