Academic schedule

The academic calendar of higher education institutions and universities varies depending on the institution. However, studies follow a fairly uniform schedule, with courses held between September and June and a long holiday period in July and August.

Courses are generally split into two terms: from September to December and from January to June. Depending on the institution, studies are completed by one or more examination periods, with the possibility of an extra exam period in the event of a fail.

All higher education institutions give their students a day off on public holidays, like 1 and 11 November, Ascension Day and Whitsun (Pentecost). Some colleges and universities schedule a week off at the end of January after the exams and during Easter.

The beginning of the academic year as well as the dates of exams and holidays vary from one institution to another. A precise academic calendar is available at higher education institutions websites.
