Intercommunale d'Inhumation

The Intercommunale d'Inhumation manages a public cemetery where any citizen can be interred in accordance with the religious ceremonies recognised by the Belgian state
Ten Brussels communes participate in the Intercommunale d'inhumation (inter-communal association for interment), to ensure that every citizen has the possibility of being interred in a public cemetery in accordance with the customs or rules of faiths recognised by the Belgian state.

Tasks

Based on a concern to avoid any discrimination several Brussels communes have formed an association to ensure that all citizens can be interred in a public cemetery if they so choose, in accordance with the customs or rules of faiths or philosophical movements recognised by the Belgian state.

This association is the Intercommunale d'inhumation.

Activities and services

The Intercommunale d'inhumation manages the multi-confessional cemetery that occupies three parcels of Schaerbeek cemetery leased from this commune. These parcels are reserved for the interment in the ground of human remains. They comply with the burial customs of members of the Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Anglican, Muslim and Orthodox faiths, as well as the secular community.
